Description

As a central figure in African philosophy, Kwasi Wiredu significantly broadened the scope of the discipline through his contribution to conceptual decolonisation and his multidisciplinary approach (spanning history, political science, and literature). His work combines a critique of local traditions deemed harmful with a deconstruction of Western epistemologies considered redundant for African thought.

Nevertheless, the monograph Kwasi Wiredu and Beyond examines the limitations of this intellectual project. Osha argues that Wiredu underestimates the full impact of his own approach: the postcolonial condition, characterized by hybridity, makes any attempt to restore pre-colonial heritage difficult, particularly due to the oversight of the issue of language. To support this critique, the analysis draws on the theoretical frameworks of leading postcolonial scholars such as Edward Said, Biodun Jeyifo, and Abiola Irele.
